Dr. Phyillis Gee
Phyllis J Gee MD is founder and medical director of Willowbend Health & Wellness, where she now provides holistic integrative health services to men, women, and adolescents, utilizing functional medical principles to uncover root causes of symptoms and disease while offering alternatives to conventional treatment options. This is accomplished by utilizing comprehensive diagnostic and lab testing along with a thorough history and timeline with a focus on the patient?s whole health. This care stresses prevention and patient education while combining herbal and botanical therapies and when necessary conventional medical care with functional medicine and other integrative modalities to facilitate the healing process.
This philosophy is rooted in a comprehensive approach that combines both physical, mental-emotional and lifestyle medicine. As such, Dr. Gee has adopted her 10 Steps to Optimal Health as the foundation for her functional medicine practice, to teach patients that the fastest way to recovering their natural health and vitality is to return to a way of eating and living that more closely matches their genes and biology, while recognizing that their environment is key.
After many years of suffering with digestive issues and developing severe allergies and sinusitis followed by hormonal imbalances, fatigue and weight gain, having seen many of these problems in her patients, Dr. Gee sought out non-conventional solutions to these mounting medical problems. In so doing, she found herself returning to her educational roots in nutrition. She was surprised to find growing evidence to support these non-conventional practices. After becoming aware of the limitations of conventional medicine, Dr. Gee began her journey studying herbs and supplements that were known to improve digestive and hormonal health and then went on to train as a Kresser Adapt Practitioner.
Dr. Gee is a board-certified gynecologist who has practiced in the Dallas area since 1986 and still provides a full range of progressive gynecologic care in Frisco, Texas where she has a focus on women?s health and wellness, including advanced minimally invasive surgery. She has been nationally recognized for her involvement in clinical research in women?s health. Dr. Gee has also been actively involved in raising awareness and educating other practitioners about hereditary cancer syndromes with a focus on hereditary breast, ovarian, and colon cancer.
Dr. Gee earned her BS degree in nutrition from Cornell University. She is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. She began her career serving in the National Health Service Corps in Harlem, NY as a member of the faculty of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, before relocating to Dallas to work for a large HMO, then subsequently establishing her private practice. Dr. Gee completed comprehensive functional medicine training while enrolled in the Kresser Institute Adapt Practitioner Functional Medicine Training program, which has provided her a broad base, upon which to continue learning about evidence-based functional medicine principles and practices.
Having been actively involved in several hospital, civic and community organizations Dr. Gee is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Collin County and an active member of the Plano North Metroplex Links Inc. She is married with one daughter and spends her free time volunteering in her church and community and traveling.
